Yesterday we went to Helsinki! (first)
This year Finland is a party! The country celebrates the centenary of its liberation from Russian rule; celebrates the centenary of its independence. _Aquest any Finlàndia està de festa! Celebra el centenari de la seva alliberació del domini rus, cel·lebra el centenari de la seva Independència.
And, of course, at some time or another, we had to be there. We couldn't be there neither during the celebrations held in the city of Helsinki on 11 and 12 June, nor (for now) for the big centennial celebration on 6 December. But we could escape last weekend, because the monday next after was a free day in Barcelona! _I, és clar, en algun moment o altre, nosaltres hi havíem de ser. No ha pogut ser durant les festes de la ciutat d'Hèlsinki els dies 11 i 12 de juny, i tampoc (ara com ara) per la festa grossa del centenari, el 6 de desembre. Però sí que ens hi vam poder escapar el cap de setmana passat, que era festiu a Barcelona!
One of the most common written things that can be found in travel publications is a collection of five, 10 or 20 things you can do, and must do, when visiting a new place for the first time. For us it is neither the first nor the second nor the third time we travel to Helsinki, but counting about 14. _Un dels articles més habituals que podem trobar en les publicacions de viatges és el recull de les 5, les 10 o les 20 coses que es poden fer, i s'han de fer, quan es visita per primera vegada un nou indret. Per a nosaltres ja no és ni la primera, ni la segona, ni la tercera vegada que viatgem a Hèlsinki, sinó la que fa 14.
So we'll try to make a collection, not a list, of some of the things that could be done when it is not your first time visiting Helsinki. In any case we want to equate to foreigners living there... sure they would know many other things to do. We'll do it just from the point of view of the tourist. _Per tant, intentarem fer un recull, no una llista, d'algunes de les coses que es podrien fer quan no és la primera vegada que es visita Hèlsinki. En cap cas ens volem equiparar als estrangers que hi viuen... segur que ells ens dirien moltes d'altres coses per fer. Nosaltres ho farem des del punt de vista del turista.
Usually people who decide to visit Helsinki for the first time surely does it for a short amount of days... coming from a cruise, or being just in a transfer flight to the Middle East, India and Asia. Or just a stop for a couple of days before setting course towards the north, to Lapland. Therefore, city visit are very very short. While repeating the visit, you'll enjoy a much slower place, which is the best way to get to know it and understand it well. Then is when you can answer one question that always makes people to us when we travel to Finland: Why? What do you feel? What experience do you get from it? _Segurament la gent que decideix visitar Hèlsinki per primera vegada no ho fa per massa dies... o haurà arribat en creuer, o està de pas abans que surti el seu avió cap a l'Orient mitjà, l'Índia o l'Àsia. O hi fa una parada d'un parell de dies abans d'emprendre rumb cap al nord del país, cap a la Lapònia. Per tant, les visites a la ciutat acostumen a ser llampec. En reincidents visites, la ciutat es podrà gaudir d'una manera molt més pausada, que és la millor manera de començar a conèixer-la i entendre-la bé. Aleshores és quan es pot respondre a un mateix la pregunta que sempre ens fa la gent quan viatgem a Finlàndia: Per què? Què hi trobeu? Què us dóna?
