Last friday I went to see David Hare's role play "The Breath of Life" at Sala Muntaner of Barcelona.
The Breath of Life is a 2002 play by Sir David Hare. It tells the story of a woman who is confronted by the wife of her lover. Over the course of one day and one night, the two women reflect on their lives and the relationship with the central, yet offstage, male character. Of the central theme of the play, Hare wrote "You can no longer call it middle age, and you certainly can't call it old age. It's something in between... I wanted to describe two women at exactly that moment; a long past behind them, but the expectation of a considerable future in front of them." _L'alè de la vida és una obra de teatre escrita el 2002 per Sir David Hare. Explica la història d'una dona que s'enfronta a l'esposa del seu amant. En el transcurs d'un dia i una nit, les dues dones reflexionen sobre les seves vides i la relació amb, el personatge central masculí que sempre és fora d'escena... Hare va dir: No se'n pot dir mitjana edat i, sens dubte, tampoc vellesa. És alguna cosa entremig... Volia descriure dues dones que viuen exactament en aquest punt de les seves vides; que tenen un llarg passat al darrere, i l'expectativa d'un futur considerable pel savant.
The play began previews at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in the West End in 2002, starring Judi Dench as Frances Beale and Maggie Smith as Madeleine Palmer. _L'obra es va estrenar al West End de Londres el 2002 protagonitzada per Judi Dench com Frances Beale i Maggie Smith com Madeleine Palmer. A Barcelona s'estrena amb Mercè Aránega i Anna Güell.
