L'artista finlandès Ville Andersson, centrat en la fotografia, la pintura i el dibuix, va néixer l'any 1986 a Pernaja, Finlàndia. Es va graduar a l'Acadèmia Finlandesa de Belles Arts l'any 2012, i l'any següent ja va presentar la seva primera exposició a la galeria d'art d'Hèlsinki Helsinki Contemporary. Des d'aleshores el seu treball artístic ha format part de nombroses exposicions. Recentment l'hem pogut veure a la Fira Internacional d'Art Contemporani de Madrid ARCO'2014. Finnish artist Ville Andersson, focusing on photography, painting and drawing, was born in 1986 in Pernaja, Finland. He is a graduate of the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts (2012), In 2013 he presented his first exhibition at the Helsinki Contemporary art gallery of Helsinki. Since then his artwork has been part of numerous exhibitions. Recently we have seen it at International Contemporary Art Fair of Madrid ARCO'2014.
Ville Andersson presenta figures humanes envoltades d'una certa atmòsfera mística, i dels que no n'arriba a desvetllar massa informació, provocant en l'espectador la necessitat d'establir-hi la pròpia relació. Es tracta d'un vel a través del qual podem filtrar, fins i tot, els nostres sentiments més obscurs, conscients i inconscients, diu Ville Andersson de la seva obra. Finnish visual artist Ville Andersson however likes to think otherwise: a true Romantic at heart, he creates drawings, paintings, photographs and texts with the aim of stirring the darker corners of our psyche as a way for us to discover more about ourselves.

Les seves composicions revelen una maduresa que és impressionant per a un artista de la seva edat, una qualitat que també és present en l'escriptura poètica que produeix, i que per Andersson són una part igual de la seva producció artística i un important aspecte del seu procés creatiu. His arresting compositions reveal a maturity that is impressive for an artist his age (he was born in 1986), a quality that is also present in the very poetic writing he produces - which for Andersson are an equal part of his artistic output and an important aspect of his creative process.

Malgrat les seves connotacions macabres i l'ambient gòtic, les seves imatges mostren la tendresa i la dignitat de la vida humana. Per a mi, l'únic que val la pena estudiar és la condició humana. És significatiu només a través de la creació de coneixement, la comprensió, el caràcter, la identitat, tot el que implica l'ésser humà. Jo prefereixo recórrer als meus propis sentiments interns per a crear aquestes imatges en lloc d'intentar maldestrament retratar una realitat exterior, reflexiona Ville Andersson. Despite their macabre overtones and Gothic atmosphere, his images are a tender and dignified take on human life: ''For me, the only thing worth studying is the human condition'' he explains. ''It is meaningful only through the creation of awareness, understanding, character, identity: in short, all that involves being human. I prefer to turn to making these images, making use of my own internal feelings rather than clumsily attempting to portray some outside reality.'' Essentially this translates into the artist and his emotions becoming the subject of the art, a quintessentially Romantic idea.

Entre les influències de Ville Andersson hi ha la literatura romàntica i l'art neo-romàntic (assaigs suecs del segle XIX, el treball de l'il·lustrador belga Léon Spilliaert i el cinema introspectiu New Wave dels anys 60's). We find Romantic literature and Neo-Romantic art amongst Ville Andersson’s influences which include 19th-century Swedish essays, the work of Belgian illustrator Léon Spilliaert, even the introspective New Wave cinema of the 1960’s.

En l'exposició My Little Empire Andersson va imaginar quina podria ser la col·lecció d'art d'un col·leccionista d'art i va crear ell mateix totes aquestes obres com si de diferents artistes d'estils i origens ben diversos es tractés. In Andersson’s solo exhibition titled ''My Little Empire'', he imagined what the collection of a fictional art collector would look like, and then set out to create all the works himself as if he were many artists from different backgrounds and styles.

Les imatges d'Andersson penetren les nostres pors més profundes i els prejudicis sobre la bellesa i la felicitat, amb la ferma convicció que, per sobre del treball i els problemes de la vida humana, hi regna una gran pau. Per Andersson no hi ha bellesa sense malenconia, ni bellesa sense lletjor, la vida i la mort. El grotesc i el bell són dues cares de la mateixa moneda. La contradicció de la vida humana. Andersson’s images penetrate our deeper fears and biases about beauty and happiness, with the firm belief that above the toil and trouble of human life ''a great peace reigns.'' For Andersson there is no beauty without melancholy, there is no beauty without ugliness, life and death. The grotesque and the beautiful are two sides of the same coin. The contradictory life of human beings.
