The Nordic nations Finland, Norway and Sweden have reached a pivotal point in their collective, and individual, architectural identities. The Grandfathers of the universal Nordic style—including the likes of Sverre Fehn, Peter Celsing, Gunnar Asplund, Sigurd Lewerentz, Alvar Aalto, and Eero Saarinen—provided a foundation upon which architects and designers since have both thrived on and been confined by. The Nordic Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Biennale—directed by Alejandro Aravena—will be the moment to debate and challenge what Nordic architecture really is and what it could be in years to come. _Finlàndia, Noruega i Suècia han arribat a un punt crucial de les seves identitats tant individuals com col·lectives pel que fa a l'arquitectura. The Nordic Pavilion, representing Finland, Norway and Sweden, has selected David Basulto (Chilean architect and co-founder, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of ArchDaily) as curator for their exhibition at the 2016 Venice Biennale. Responding to Biennale director Alejandro Aravena's theme for the 2016 event, 'Reporting from the Front', the exhibition organized by Basulto and the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design (ArkDes) will use Nordic architecture, urbanism and landscape architecture as "a springboard" to understand the future challenges which architecture and the built environment will face. _El Pavellò Nòrdic, que representa a Finlàndia, Noruega i Suècia, ha seleccionat David Basulto (arquitecte xilè i cofundador, CEO i Editor en Cap de ArchDaily) com a responsable de les exposicions que s'hi exhibiran. From the Front és el tema plantejant pel director de la propera edició
de la Biennal de Venècia, el també xilè Alejandro Aravena, que pretén
aprofundir sobre el paper dels arquitectes en la batalla diària per
millorar les condicions de vida de les persones a tot el món. L'exposició que s'hi organitzarà entén l'arquitectura, l'urbanisme i el paisatgisme nòrdic com "un trampolí "per entendre els futurs desafiaments que la disciplina arquitectònica enfrontarà.
The exhibition will "shine a psychoanalytical, inward light on Nordic society through architecture," explained Basulto, "helping to formulate the questions that can help us to reflect on and understand this particular moment in Nordic architecture in order to propose a direction to advance towards its full potential". "Using Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs as an analytical and observational lens, the exhibition will explore and investigate the projects that have been instrumental in constructing contemporary Nordic society and, from this analysis, discuss the questions that society and architecture need to find solutions to in order to progress." _Utilitzant
