AHIR vaig anar a... veure l'òpera Norma al Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona; i el divendres passat, Medea, de la companyia de dansa Thomas Noone Dance al Mercat de les Flors de Barcelona.
Yesterday we went to see the opera Norma at the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona; and last friday, Medea, by Thomas Noon Dance, at Mercat de les Flors of Barcelona.

In Roman-dominated Gaul, the high priestess Norma has broken her vow of chastity by entering a relationship with the Roman pro-consul Pollione and the birth of their two children has been kept secret. But when she discovers she has a rival, jealousy sets in. Norma is a classical heroine, passionate and revengeful, and her dilemma provides the starting point for the most successful work by the last and greatest composer of bel canto. Though the first performance was a failure, Norma went on to become an established favourite. It first came to the Liceu in 1847, not long after its official opening, and was, in fact, the third opera to be staged there. _Durant el poder romà a la Gàl·lia, la gran sacerdotessa Norma viola el seu vot de castedat amb un procònsul romà, Pollione, amb qui té dos fills en secret, però acaba sentint el despit amorós perquè hi ha una altra dona. És una heroína clàssica, apassionada i venjativa. D’aquí parteix el més exitós de Bellini, l’últim i millor compositor de bel canto. Aquesta òpera va fracasar durant l’estrena, però després s'ha convertit en un èxit fonamental del repertori. Norma es va estrenar al Liceu l’any 1847, recent inaugurat el Teatre, i va ser la tercera òpera en representar-s'hi.

Euripides’ Medea is one of the most dramatic stories of betrayal ever written. In the version of the myth recreated by Thomas Noone, we are witnesses to love and heartbreak, admiration and contempt; we see how the characters compete with each other through the use of a rich, complex and very physical dance that offers a contrast between highly dynamic movements and moments of exquisite fragility and intimacy. _La Medea d’Eurípides és una de les històries de traïció més dramàtiques mai escrites. En la versió del mite que recrea Thomas Noone som testimonis de l’amor i el desamor, l’admiració i el menyspreu; veiem com els personatges competeixen entre ells a través de l’ús d’una dansa rica, complexa i molt física que ofereix un contrast entre un elevat dinamisme i moments d’exquisida fragilitat i intimitat.

The performers weave their own reality. As spectators we see our own weaknesses as in a mirror, exposed by the characters who are hurt and hurt each other. The skill and vigour of the dancers is reinforced by an electronic soundtrack enriched with contemporary urban influences. _Els intèrprets teixeixen la seva pròpia realitat. Com a espectadors veiem les nostres debilitats en un mirall, exposades pels personatges que fereixen i són ferits. La destresa i vigor dels ballarins es potencien gràcies a una banda sonora electrònica enriquida amb influències urbanes contemporànies.
