HÈLSINKI

Before arriving in Kilpisjärvi, one night-stop in Leppajärvi (Hetta). _Abans d'arribar a Kilpisjärvi, destí principal del nostre viatge, una parada per dormir a Leppajärvi (Hetta). 

Enontekiö has over 60 % of Finland's fells and it is in this area that the 20 peaks in Finland that rise over 1,000m are situated. In Enontekiö there are 20.000 reindeer. It is also home to the arctic fox, the wolverine, the lemming, the willow grouse and the rock ptarmigan. Enontekiö has managed to keep all of its rivers in their natural state, the air is clean and the nature is pure and peaceful. The area has also retained a lot of its’ cultural heritage. _Enontekiö té més del 60% dels pujols de Finlàndia i és en aquesta àrea on hi ha els 20 pics de Finlàndia que s'eleven per sobre de 1.000m. A Enontekiö hi ha uns 20.000 rens. És també la llar de la guineu àrtica, el llobató, el lèmming, la perdiu d'Escandinàvia i la perdiu blanca. Enontekiö ha aconseguit mantenir tots els seus rius en el seu estat natural, l'aire és net i la natura és pura i pacífica. La zona també ha conservat gran part del seu patrimoni cultural. 

The village of Hetta is the capital of the municipality of Enontekiö (which is part of the land of the Sami, and has a population of 1999 inhabitants), located on the north shore of Lake Ouna (Ounasjärvi), 317km from Rovaniemi, and 1076km from Helsinki. One of the most important visits is its church, built in 1952 by the Finnish architect Veikko Larkas (1909-1969). _El poble de Hetta és la capital de la municipalitat d'Enontekiö (que és part de la terra dels Sami, i té un població de 1999 habitants), situat a la riba nord del llac Ounas (Ounasjärvi), a 317km de Rovaniemi, i a 1076 d'Hèlsinki.. Una de les visites més destacades és la seva església, construïda l'any 1952 per l'arquitecte finlandès Veikko Larkas (1909-1969).

 

Leppäjärvi is only a few kilometers north of Hetta. Its population is less than 200 inhabitants. The main activities you can do in the summer are, overall, those related to hiking, as it is in all Lapland, a great nature paradise. Or, the Finns like to do  is "just be" ('vain olla', in Finnish). In winter, ans also often in spring, the snow fills everything. The activities then change color and are those related to the white and cold environment! We did only stay one night... so we decided to 'just stay' and enjoy the sunset. We stayed in one of the cabins (one of the smallest) at Kelotin Rantamajat. A lovely place full of very friendly people willing to help you whenever you need. Remember that in this kind of accommodation, if you do not bring with you any towels or bed linen, they must be rented (about 5€ per person/per night). _Leppajärvi és a pocs quilòmetres al nord de Hetta. La seva població no arriba als 200 habitants. Les activitats que s'hi poden fer són, a l'estiu, totes aquelles relacionades amb l'excursionisme, ja que es troba en plena natura lapona. O, com els agrada als finlandesos, només estar (vain olla, en finès). A l'hivern, i sovint gran part de la primavera, la neu ho omple tot. Les activitats, doncs, canvien de color, i són totes aquelles relacionades amb el medi blanc... i el fred! Nosaltres només hi vam fer estada un vespre i una nit... així que vam decidir només estar i gaudir del capvespre. Ens vam quedar en una de les cabanes de Kelotin Rantamajat, una de les més petites. Un lloc encantador ple de gent molt amable disposada a ajudar-te en tot el que faci falta. Recordeu que, en aquest tipus d'allotjaments, si no ho porteu, les tovalloles i els llençols s'han de llogar (al voltant dels 5€ per persona i nit).

 

Mosquitoes were already waiting for us, although there weren't as much as we found at Kilpisjärvi! There, we arrived the next day from Leppäjärvi. We stayed at Haltinmaa Cottages, where we stayed two nights in a nice, spacious, clean and cozy cabin with all the necessary services... in the other cabins stayed also other people who basically was in Kilpisjärvi because its possibilities for a lot of great excursions. It is the first stop to and from Norway, as it is located next to the border with that country. _Aquí ja hi vam trobar mosquits (fins aleshores, des de Rovaniemi encara no havíem baixat del cotxe), però no tants com els que ens esperaven a Kilpisjärvi! Allà hi vam arribar l'endemà de Leppajärvi. I ens vam allotjar a Haltinmaa Cottages, on ens hi vam quedar dues nits, en una cabana senzilla, però espaiosa, neta i acollidora amb tots els serveis necessaris... acompanyats, en les altres cabanes, de gent que bàsicament arriba a Kilpisjärvi per les moltes possibilitats que ofereix per a fer excursions. A més, és la primera parada des de i cap a Noruega, ja que es troba al costat de la frontera amb aquest país.

 

In the following two posts will climb Saana fell, which you may see behind the cabins, the most visited and recognized fell in Finland, and we'll walk the whole hiking trail (11 km) to Kolmen Valtakunnan Rajapyykki, the three countries border between Finland, Sweden and Norway. _En els dos següents posts pujarem al Saana, la muntanya que veieu darrere les cabanes, el pujol més conegut i visitat de Finlàndia, i farem tot el recorregut d'11 quilòmetres fins a Kolmen Valtakunnan Rajapyykki, la frontera de tres països entre Finlàndia, Suècia i Noruega.
