AVUI m'agrada... una vella sauna recuperada i restaurada a Finlàndia.

What today I like most is an old partially refurbished sauna in Finland.

Sauna Tonttu és una vella sauna del segle 19, que va ser traslladada a la seva ubicació actual, a Myllymäki, a finals dels anys '40. Aleshores, la sauna es va transformar en un graner. La sisena generació a la mateixa granja l'ha tornat a reconvertir en sauna. Sauna Tonttu is an old, 19th century smoke sauna, which has been moved to its current location in Myllymäki in the late 1940s. At the same time the smoke sauna was changed into a granary. The sixth generation on the same farm is changing it into a sauna once again. 

L'edifici descobreix tant la part vella, com la nova. The building shows the new and the old side by side.

Les noves parts (el sostre interior de la sauna, la terrassa i el pont) s'han construit amb avet d'alta qualitat, que es tornarà grisos amb el temps. L'estufa de la sauna és de maó i la caldera s'ha muntat al mateix emplaçament. The new parts (the inner ceiling, the terrace and the bridge) consist of high-quality spruce, which is meant to turn grey with age, and a black-grouted, brick sauna stove and cauldron masoned at the site.

Per arribar a la sauna s'ha de creuar un camp de blat de moro. Diu l'arquitecte que aquest passeig forma part del procés de purificació de l'experiència de la sauna.

The sauna is located on top of a rock which rises 200 meters above sea level. You reach the sauna along a little path through a cornfield, which leads to a sheltered terrace. The walk up to the sauna is part of the purification process.

Durant la restauració, els troncs més podrits van ser reparats, i el revestiment es va reemplaçar només allà on era necessari. A l'interior, les tarimes del terra, els seients i els bancs de la sauna són de fusta d'avet especialment seleccionada. La nova fusta raspallada contrasta amb les velles superfícies desgastades i mal unides. In the renovations, rotten logs were repaired and the cladding replaced where necessary. Inside, the duckboards on the floor, the seats and the sauna benches are all in selected spruce. The new planed wood, which is light in colour, contrasts with the old distressed surfaces of the logs.

L'edifici és una sauna primitiva on totes les activitats es duen a terme en el mateix espai. L'espai és alt, fet que garantitza una temperatura adequada per a cada activitat... sauna, rentat, relaxació,... Des de la banqueta superior de la sauna, a través d'una porta, s'accedeix a un que condueix a una tina per a banyar-se. The building is a primitive sauna where all the activities take place in the same space. The space is high so there is a suitable temperature for each, sitting in the steam, washing and relaxing. From the top sauna bench there is a door to a bridge leading to a bath tub.
